Inspiring Future Ocean Stewards and Innovators: Middle & High School Students
CoastX is dedicated to sparking a passion for the blue economy in the next generation by providing hands-on, ocean-based experiential educational programs based on STEAM, innovation and entrepreneurship for middle and high school students.
Students rarely get the opportunity to engage with real-life problems that require innovative thinking. This missing experience means they often lack the support to create innovative problem-solving ideas and turn those ideas into a product or service. The cultivation of an entrepreneurial mindset and having an applied problem-solving skillset is a life-long benefit.
This is what makes CoastX unique. We combine the on-water experiential learning on the front-end with creative and innovative idea generation programs on the back-end, supported by entrepreneurs and mentors, to help student ideas become a reality.
By fostering problem solving innovation, we help students be curious, build their confidence, and nurture their sense as to what is possible.
We envision CoastX as the premier hub for ocean-based education and innovation in Southern Maine and the Seacoast of New Hampshire, anchored by the future CoastX Ocean Lab facility.
CoastX offers a unique marine STEM, arts education and innovation framework to inspire over 25,000 middle and high school students in Southern Maine and the Seacoast of New Hampshire.
First, during our summer programs, we get students out on the water to create interest and curiosity through hands-on experiential learning in science, art, and engineering programs.
From that experience, we provide students with deeper extended engagement opportunities including:
1. CoastX Innovation Program to support all stages of student solutions/ideas development (products or services) with 1:1 and group entrepreneurship mentoring. We provide additional coaching for participation in local, regional, and national idea and business plan competitions.
2. Additional CoastX programs to further their ocean exploration curiosity
3. Workforce Development by facilitating internships, apprenticeships and/or jobs in traditional marine and blue tech companies
4. Encouragement to pursue of their marine studies through advanced educational programs or higher education
